A Performance by the Girls is Bashi Arts' inaugural performance program, featuring works by founding resident dance companies, Enya Kalia Creations and RACHEL:dancers.

Performance by the Girls is an evening of experimental concert dance performance, centered on themes of girlhood, womanhood, Black feminism, and ancestral resonances. 

The following access offerings will be provided to all ticketed audience members:

1. Bashi Arts embraces an open-door policy, inviting audience members to enter/exit the theater throughout the performance as necessary.

2. Audio description will be available via QR code and can be accessed on your own smartphone. Audience members using audio description are asked to bring their own smartphone and headphones. For The Black Women Who Saved My Life (Act 2), pre-recorded audio description will be available throughout the performance. For Why Do I Keep Betting on a Losing Dog? / Tomorrow, I'll Be Ready (Act 1), a pre-recorded audio introduction will be available before the performance. The work itself incorporates an experimental audio description soundscore as part of the performance.

3. A limited number of KN95 masks and COVID self-tests are available at the check-in table in the lobby. We encourage you to take any COVID supplies you may need. Masking during this event is not required, but highly encouraged.

4. Fidget/sensory toys are available at the check-in table in the lobby. You are welcome to use them at any time. We ask that if you use any of these items, you return them to the check-in table following tonight’s performance.

Ticketed audience members can request the following access offerings in advance, after (or while) purchasing their ticket:

1. ASL interpretation is available upon advance request. If you would like to request ASL interpretation for this performance, please email info@bashiarts.org with the subject line "ASL Interpretation - Performance." To ensure the best viewing experience, audience members requesting ASL interpretation will be assigned seating that provides a clear view of the interpreter throughout the performance. We kindly ask that any requests for ASL interpretation be made via email no later than Sunday, August 2nd, 2026.

2. Wheelchair accessible seating is available upon advance request. If you would like to request wheelchair accessible seating, you will be prompted to do so during your ticket purchase. Simply "check" the box when asked, "Would you like to reserve wheelchair accessible seating?" for all guests who would like to reserve an accessible seat. To ensure the best experience, audience members requesting accessible seating will be assigned seating in the front row.

An Access & Experience Guide will be available in the lobby before and throughout the performance to assist with accessing the audio description and answer any access-related questions.

The Mark O’Donnell Theater is an ADA-accessible theater seating 87 audience members total. ADA-accessible, gender-neutral bathrooms are available.

Sensory Warning: During this performance, loud and sudden sounds will be played. Theatrical lighting will be used. Some works include additional multi-sensory elements, such as the live shucking of sweet corn, the use of live flowers, and a “scent score” card in the show program that includes interactive scratch-and-sniff stickers. Some of these elements may be overwhelming to audience members. We encourage you to use our open door policy as needed. session for makers and thinkers to collaborate, connect, and spark new ideas.
